Had my appointment with Dr. H this morning. Hubby came along too, since he wasn't so keen on me driving through the narrow and traffic-lined streets in the mornings. Germans are fairly aggressive on the roads and I know he's a little bit more cautious now that I'm in my last trimester of the pregnancy. To top that off, there's hardly any parking by our hospital and clinic, so we usually end up leaving our home about 45 minutes early to beat the traffic and circle around for parking.
The appointment went fairly well. Dr. H checked the usual; baby's heartbeat, checking for contractions, and checking to see if I'm dilated or not. They also took 2 blood samples to test for strep B and something else (can't remember) and also took a swab sample from my cervix. One thing with Germans and privacy is that sometimes it's non-existent, meaning, you could change into a towel right there with the doctors and nurse and it doesn't faze them. I think that's what sort of unnerved the hubby, but he just had a weird look on his face as I calmly climbed onto the exam chair and let Dr. H do his thing. Normally, J waits in the waiting area, but he decided to tag along this time. Surprise, surprise.
No ultrasound this time, but Dr. H felt around my uterus and noted that the little guy is nicely and firmly lodged in the bottom part of my abdomen with little to no chance of flipping over. Also, his butt is where it's always been---in the top part of the right side of my belly. Some days, he wiggles it and tries to move it around, but lately it seems like he's running out of room.
I've also lost 2 more lbs., but Dr. H wasn't too concerned as he knows it's due to the change in diet and gestational diabetes. He was alarmed when I told him I'm still sticking myself 6x a day and said I don't need to check myself that often. I wasn't told by the dietitian otherwise, so that's why I keep doing it. I have an appointment with her next week, so I'll see if they can relax the needle pricks this time. I do run out of test strips and lancets pretty quickly...
From now on, I'll be having weekly appointments until the baby's due, so that'll be fun running around with a heavy belly.
