I know that you non-parental types, and parents of generations gone by think that kids are raised with excess of paraphernalia these days. My mom didn't have nearly as many fancy gadgets as I have for Will. Truthfully, she did fine without them, and I am sure that we would survive if I didn't have these things available to me. But I will never regret purchasing a few items. The swing was one great thing. My Moby Wrap and Baby Bjorn, travel table seat, jogging stroller, Bum Genius and exersaucer are a few other things that I have been thankful for.
This week I purchased a used Ergo Baby carrier. I am so excited to have this-- it has already made life a little easier. This carrier gives the option to carry baby/child on front, hip or back. When compared to the Moby Wrap, it is easier to use-- quicker to assemble and insert baby, and I feel safer through the assembly process when putting him on my back than I ever did with my wraps. Compared to the Baby Bjorn it's better on my lower back by far and gives more options for carrying positions. Compared to our Kelty, it's far less bulky and better for my neck. Will seems to like it. We have used it successfully during a food shopping trip and while doing laundry. The majority of the baby's weight is carried on your hips which makes my lower back and shoulders very happy. Our black Ergo is sort of masculine-looking, so my husband is excited to give it a try. He used the Bjorn too, but Will is getting a little big for that.
I like to have to option to carry Will so I can keep track of him. We're going camping this weekend, and we'll need a way to contain him while we set up our tent etc. We've used the port-a-crib before, but he just throws his toys out on the ground and complains the whole time. I don't really have a safe place to leave him while switching loads of laundry, and with cloth diapering there is a lot of laundry going on around here. So this carrier will make quick trips to the basement easier. I can use this when I'm weeding the garden and picking beans and tomatoes. As if my enthusiasm isn't self evident enough. I'm excited about my purchase!
