I've got to get the video camera rolling! This phenomenon is so fascinating and new to me though it's not really rare, but it's a big development for us. Will started taking handfulls of steps over short distances early in July, but on Thursday he decided that he was going to walk everywhere rather than crawl. Along with that decision came the realization that he can carry things as he goes. His play changed overnight. I am amazed and infinitely amused to watch it. One day we played blocks in one room for an hour. The next we were bopping around the house in high gear. I felt like I was playing pinball all day and Will was the ball. He finds it amusing to relocate random detritus left around the house: Sean's socks, single blocks, the contents of our recycling container. I was amazed to watch him carry yogurt cups, empty soda cans and a pedialyte bottle from the recycling bin to the bottom of the stairs and line them all up there. Back and forth like a little busy ant. When he knocked his collection over, he carefully squatted down and straightened them up, one-by-one. His little squat to pick up an item is so careful and calculated and his concentration is absolutely palpable. Then he squeals, or rather grunt-squeals with delight as he sees something new that is exciting to him and he scrambles over to pick it up and hold it out to us. The energy abounds, and the enthusiasm is endless. Now to channel that energy and create a safe environment for my little pinball.
